Working in multicultural contexts requires more than good intentions. It requires the tools to recognize the power structures that shape every educational relationship, every act of welcome, and every form of social intervention.
For decades, “intercultural” has meant building bridges between cultures. A valuable approach—but an incomplete one. Because it left the most uncomfortable question unanswered: within what context of power does that dialogue take place?
Emancipatory intercultural competencies take this a step further. They don’t simply ask us to understand diversity; they ask us to stop reproducing the structures that place people and cultures in a hierarchy.
Three sessions. Three locations. One shared learning journey for social workers, educators, activists, and volunteers who want to work in a more conscious, context-aware, and anti-racist way.
